Georg Friedrich Händel

Georg Friedrich Händel, de overbekende Britse barokcomponist van Duitse afkomst is geboren in Halle an der Saale (Duitsland) op 23 februari 1685. Hij overleed te Londen op 14 april 1759 in de leeftijd van 74 jaar. Händel is bekend door zijn vele muziekwerken. Hij schreef wel 42 opera's, 29 oratoria, 100 cantate’s, anthems, kerkmuziek, orkest- en klavierwerken en kamermuziek, in totaal meer dan 610 werken. Samen met Johann Sebastian Bach, die in hetzelfde jaar werd geboren, wordt Händel als één van de grootste componisten van zijn tijd gezien. In verscheidene muziekstukken, waarvan we er twee laten zien, gebruikt hij Gods naam, bijvoorbeeld in Esther, Deborah, Athalia, Saul, Samson, Occasional Oratorio, Juddas Maccabeus, Joshua, Solomon,...

Muziekstuk: In zijn Oratorium 'Samson' vinden we de Goddelijke Naam terug. Dit Oratorium werd gecomponeerd van 29 september - 29 oktober 1741. De eerste opvoering was op 18 februari 1743 in London, Covent Garden Theatre.

Ter wille van de Naam geven we graag een uitsnede uit de Engelstalige text.
